Heat Treatment Guide & Properties
D2 requires precise heat treatment to develop its high wear resistance and hardness. Multiple tempering cycles are used to reduce internal stresses and achieve stable hardness. Proper preheating and controlled quenching help avoid cracking and distortion.
Annealing
Furnace cool slowly to soften for machining.
Hardening
Oil quenching recommended for optimal hardness.
Tempering
Multiple tempering cycles to achieve desired hardness and stability.

■ Chemical Composition
D2 tool steel contains high levels of chromium, which forms hard chromium carbides providing outstanding wear resistance. Carbon content is also high to support hardness, while small additions of Vanadium and Molybdenum help improve toughness and wear resistance. This composition makes D2 ideal for heavy-duty cutting and forming tools where abrasion is a major concern.
■ Mechanical Properties
D2 offers very high hardness and wear resistance after proper heat treatment. It provides excellent dimensional stability and maintains sharp edges under high-pressure conditions. However, D2 is less tough compared to some other tool steels, so it is best suited for applications where wear resistance is the primary requirement.
Quality & Standards
Materials are processed and reviewed following standard procedures. Various checks are performed to assess general quality and consistency. Our products are throughly tested for grade D2. Lanoit Special Steel Industries is a recognized provider in the steel sector, known for supplying a wide range of steel products. The company works with experienced teams and standard practices to support reliable material availability.
